Made: Project Sewing 101- Card Wallet with Coin Pouch & Snap Closure.

This week for my challenge I went rogue. The chapter I'm currently working in, pouches, had 3 projects listed as usual, but I thought the first one was dumb, so I skipped it.  (It was making an eyeglasses case by folding a piece of felt in half and sewing two edges).  I'll make another, more challenging eyeglasses case later.

But for now, I wanted to replace this challenge with a project of my own that I thought was in the same realm, but would be harder for me to work through. So, I chose this wallet that I've been seeing everywhere, since I wanted one for my own anyway. I found this easy to work through tutorial and set to work.

Cutting the fabric was confusing. I had to think through what elements I wanted to be what color, and figure out which sizes cut they would turn out to be.  It was a bit backwards for my brain to sift through, but I got it.

The inside was a pretty fun challenge.  I loved making the card side, but the zipper pocket turend out to be pretty tricky. My zipper is inserted a bit wonky ( I HATE working with the zipper foot- I have a lot of trouble controlling it) but it works and it's there.  For now that's all that matters haha.

Up close and personal with my weird, crooked stitches and wonky zipper insertion.
You may have also noticed that this project required me to add a snap closure. I had to do it twice; the first time it popped off, so I'm worried that it won't hold up well.  Time will tell.  I figure, this will be mine, and if it falls apart, I'll harvest it's parts for another project and make myself another one.

This would be another great holiday gift, so I might make a few more for practice and give them out this year;)

What do you guys think?

Wow - that is one CUTE wallet!!
I think you did a great job on the zipper :)
I only use magnetic snaps because I find the regular snap buttons really don't hold up well...found out the hard way :-/

Looks great! It's great that you're challenging yourself with harder projects than the book recommends!
These will make awesome gifts!

Ahhhh! Great job. I am so jealous. I am terrible about snaps and have even tried to get my husband to do them for me.

Nancy, I featured one of your posts in today's .

Look at that zipper!! Wow!! That is so great, Nancy. Your dedication to the sewing 101 project is clearly paying off. You are making some really rockin' projects lately. You really have an eye for fabrics too. I wouldn't have thought to pair the polka dots with the fruits but it works SO well.
