Made: Project Sewing 101- Pleated Messenger Bag.

Incase you were wondering...yes, I was delinquent with my "Made Monday" post yesterday.  I've been in need of a few supplies but was and couldn't get them!  I'm finally well enough to drive, so was able to make a supply run yesterday.  In my excitement to finally have materials to work with, I pumped out a slew of new pieces that have been just waiting for me!

The first one will complete the "Handbags" chapter in my book (chapter 7), meaning that I've completed 24 projects, 20 of them being from the book!  I'm so proud:)  Just 9 to go- can you believe it?

This project was really fun to make!  I had absolutely no trouble with either the directions or the construction of this messenger bag.  The front flap has a pleated detail, which was really fun to do, and everything else was pretty much old news to me at this point.

I added three pockets on one side of the lining, and a zipper pouch on the other side.  The interior is big enough to stash a laptop, although, it's not really padded enough for one.

I really love the classic cut of this bag.  It's nice and sleek, but has enough detail to be interesting.  I made it with a friend in mind- she just had a birthday, and this will be a perfect gift!

I also added a pocket on the back, since aforementioned friend loves this feature in a bag.  I can invision many different ad ons and alterations, including an adjustable strap, enhanced padding, more pockets, piping: really you could go crazy with it!

What's up next?  I've decided to skip chapter 8, "Accessories" since I've got little interest in any of those projects and there aren't many new skills here anyway.  I'll be moving on to chapter 9, which has 3 cute kid's clothing projects.  I'm pretty excited about this one;)

Question- Have you made anything you're really excited about lately?

Oh my GOSH! I LOVE this bag!! I love the clean lines too.

I need you to help me find some good art on etsy one of these days. If you are poking around etsy and need a quest, let me know. I am looking for a couple of pictures for my bathroom--something in blues and or greens. I always like what you find.

The bag is fabulous! I thought you made it for yourself, since it's green ;-)
Good idea adding pockets - can't have too many pockets!

Ah, that's great! Makes it a little 'dressier' too, with the pleats. And I love the color (big green fan here). :)

Love that messenger bag, the pleats and all the pockets are really nice details. It is always fun sewing when you have all the skills you need, and it looks like you have all the skills! I can't wait to see the clothing your make.

great bag! And good idea to skip something that isn't as interesting to you. Can't wait to see the kid's clothing you make. I was excited about the Impressionistic pencil watercolors that I used. I thought the short rapid strokes were ugly at first, but they worked out very neat! {:-D

I LOVE both of the fabrics! The pleats are so cute, and make it a little more special than just a "regular" messenger bag.

I have an idea for a new project.. but it will probably turn out awful, as most of my so-called great ideas do! lol! Hopefully I will get to play with it today!

It's wonderful to see how enthusiastic you are about your sewing, and how you've grown in both confidence and skill. The bag is delicious!
